1) Search instructions for Artist/Title/Label                         Japanese Instructions

Pick category via drop down

For 12 inch, 10 inch and/or Japanese records, LPs, albums (NOT Anthologies categories)

You may search by artist, title or label or any combination. For the largest number of returns, enter only one category (artist or label or title). You can enter more than one category but search will be limited to the combination of fields that you entered.

You may sort your search results by artist, title or label, appropriately.

For Example, if you want to find Cannonball Adderley, you can search (Artist field only) for Adderley and you will find all records (non anthologies) in which we have listed any Adderley as leader. If you enter Adderley, Cannonball each on the appropriate  separate artist field, you will find only records that have Cannonball Adderley as the leader.

If you also enter a label in addition to a leader, you have limited the results to only that artist on that label. Example, if you enter Adderley, Cannonball in artist field and Capitol in label field, you will find all records with Cannonball Adderley as a leader on the Capitol label.

In all cases, you can sort the search results as mentioned above.

Note: in many cases we have listed some personnel in Title field.. Example: if you searched for . Mobley, or Mobley, Hank using only Artist field(s), you would find very few since we do not have many Hank Mobley LPs as a leader. But, if you entered Mobley in the TITLE field (only field in which you enter anything), you will find him listed on a number of records on which he plays. If you also entered a label, e.g. Prestige, you would only find him (in title field) on Prestige records.

You can still sort the search results as mentioned above.

You can combine names in the title field but that will greatly reduce the number of search results as it will only yield records that have all the names/words entered.

If you select All Records from the Category drop down , the resulting records will be mixed together regarding the separate categories except Anthologies which  will appear last (at the end of the results).

Note: In all searches that yield more than 1000 records, please continue viewing results by using the paging at the bottom left of each page of search results.

You can Utilize Search All Records to find a leader or Title, or label in each field. For instance, if you wanted to find all the records that had the word JAZZ in the title, pick All Records category via the drop down, only fill in the word JAZZ in title field, pick how you want the results sorted and that will result in all records in all categories in the data base that have the word JAZZ in the title. If you fill in another field, in addition to JAZZ in the title section, e.g. Savoy in the label field, you will get all Savoy LPs (all categories) that have the word JAZZ in the title.

If you wish to find all records on one specific label in any particular category or all categories (All Records), then fill in that label in label field, (do NOT fill artist or title fields). This can be sorted by artist or title.

Note: If you choose to sort All records with only label field filled in, and sort by artist, Anthologies will appear LAST in search results

ANTHOLOGIES BOTH 12" AND 10" LPs

Similar to non-anthology categories but DO NOT FILL IN ARTIST SECTION. ALWAYS LEAVE ARTIST SECTION BLANK WHEN SEARCHING ANTHOLOGIES CATEGORIES.

Anthologies have titles and labels, no artists.

Search for all Anthologies in either Anthology category (12" and 10") by leaving artist, label and title fields blank. You can Sort by Title or Label. If you wanted to find e.g. all Capitol label records, leave artist and title blank, put Capitol in label field. You can sort by title.

If you want to find Anthologies with the word Jazz in the title, leave label and artist blank, enter Jazz in title field. You can sort by label.

If you want to find Anthology records that have e.g. Count Basie on them (we list many but not all artists/leaders in title field), leave artist and label blank, enter Basie in Title field. You can sort by label. You can combine names in title field but that will greatly reduce the number of search results as it will only yield records that have the names/words entered. Example, if you entered Herman, Basie, search results will have Herman, Basie and not Herman without Basie nor Basie without Herman.

Note: If you search for all either 10" or 12" Anthologies and choose sort by Artist, it will be sorted by label (since there is no artist field for anthologies)

2) SEARCH ALPHABETICALLY BY ARTISTS

Instructions are on Search Page.

Note: When the category ALL RECORDS is searched,  ANTHOLOGIES will be listed at the end of that particular alpha list and only list anthologies whose titles start with the letter searched.

The default order for multiple results of same artist is by label when searching alphabetically.

3) SEARCH ENTIRE LIST OF JAZZ LPS

This is actually a browse and will yield entire list, as chosen. Be sure to use the paging system (arrows at bottom left of search pages) as only about 1000 LPs can be seen per page.

Select a category and sort by artist, title or label.

For Anthology categories, sort by title or label.

Note: If you choose All Records category,  Anthologies will appear at the end of the list.
